WHAT ARE POINTS?
Points represent a fee you may pay a lender to lower the interest rate on your loan at closing. Each point is equal to one percent of the principal value of the loan, for example, two points on a $100,000 mortgage would cost $2,000. This amount is a separate fee, sometimes called a "loan origination fee" and is not the same as or part of the interest rate.
